These are "bezel" files for vertical-screen games, developed specifically for the Xbox versions of MAME. They will work in normal MAME too, though, so you can check them out to see if you like them before transferring them over to your Xbox. Most of these are not "true" bezels, ie they're not the arcade monitor surround graphics (though a few, like Galaxian and Pac-Man, are). Mostly they are the arcade machine's "marquee" (ie the header sign at the top of the machine), set on either side of the screen to more prettily fill what would otherwise be blank space. (Using the "true" bezels with Xbox MAME mostly leaves the game in far too small an area of the screen to be useable without making your eyes bleed.) To use the bezels, simply copy the zipped files over into the "ARTWORK" directory of the MAME folder on your Xbox. ----------------------- NOTE: At the time of writing (v72.1b), there is a bug in MAME (PC and Xbox versions) with regard to clones. If you have clone games showing up on your game list, and the "parent" game has a bezel but the clone doesn't, the clone will crash. So if you get this problem, switch bezel support off to play those games. ----------------------- I've also included a couple of template files which will allow you to easily create your own bezels for 99% of other vertical games (a very few won't work with this method). All you need to do is this: - find the graphics you want to use for each side of the display. - resize them to 480 x 136 pixels. - paste them over the corresponding parts of TEMPLATE.PNG and save it with your game's name (eg BUMPJUMP.PNG) - edit TEMPLATE.ART so that the "file" line points to your graphic file (eg file = bumpjump.png) and save it with the appropriate name (eg BUMPJUMP.ART). Don't change any of the other lines. - zip up your new .PNG and .ART files along with ALLMASK.PNG (don't change the name) into a zip called BUMPJUMP.ZIP (or whatever) and copy that into your ARTWORK directory. Job done.
